FMB Master Builder Award - National Final in London !

Lowry Brothers has once again been successful in reaching the national final of the FMB Master Builder of the Year Awards, having won the NI regional `Commercial category` award for the construction of Newtownstewart Presbyterian Church Hall.

Although unlucky not to scoop the national title John & Stephen Lowry enjoyed the glittering ceremony in London`s Park Plaza Hotel, hosted by TV presenter George Clarke, on March 20th 2013.

Shortlisted for the CEF Specify Construction Excellence Awards 2012

Lowry Brothers are delighted to announce that for the third year running, they have been successfully shortlisted for the Construction Excellence Awards in the following categories:

Private Housing - Backglen Road, Omagh

This prominent private dwelling was constructed on the outskirts of Omagh on an elevated rural site surrounded by mature trees, and with envious views over Tyrone’s rolling countryside.

Utilities Infrastructure - C426 Asset Maintenance

Following the award of C426 Building and Above Ground Asset Maintenance to Lowry Brothers Ltd NI Water identified approximately 40 no. Service Reservoir sites requiring a wide variety of Health & Safety Upgrades to comply with current legislation.

Health Infrastructure T & F Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit

Lowry Brothers worked closely with the Western Health & Social Care Trust on this £917,000 project involving the integration of acute adult admission wards to create a remodelled psychiatric intensive care unit

1961 - 2011 50th Anniversary for Lowry Brothers !

The company recently held a function to celebrate its 50 Year milestone - originally formed and run in 1961 by Jack Lowry the business has grown from strength to strength, surviving several economic downturns over the decades, to have become one of the major players in the construction industry.

Further Success in CEF Specify Construction Excellence Awards 2011

We are delighted, once again, to have been shortlisted in the following categories of the 2011 Construction Excellence Awards :

Social Housing -

`Maigh Locha` 5 Unit Social Housing Scheme at Donagh, Lisnaskea for regular client Rural Housing Association

Training -

Lowry Bros places great emphasis on training and upskilling our workforce, recognising that competent staff are key to successful project delivery :

Staff are continually encouraged to study for additional qualifications to further their career prospects, and we are currently partnering South West College, Omagh in the launch of the college`s new Degree Course in Civil Engineering and Transport.

We are also participating in the CITB-CS Pathway to Construction programme to provide placement for apprentices.

Major WHSCT contract secured

Lowry Brothers Ltd has won another major health sector contract for Western Health & Social Care Trust to integrate the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit within the existing Adult Admissions Ward Accommodation on the T&F Hospital Site at Omagh.

The £900k contract, which involves the renovation of the existing ward accommodation together with a new extension and associated upgrade of the mechanical and electrical services, is due to commence in August 2011.

More Social Housing contracts for Lowry Brothers

Lowry Brothers has recently secured three more social housing contracts for Oaklee Homes and Clanmil Housing throughout Tyrone and Fermanagh :

  • Oaklee - 6 Unit New Build Scheme at former PSNI Station Site, Sion Mills
  • Oaklee - 6-Bed Complex Needs Dwelling at Loughrey Terrace, Drumquin
  • Clanmil - Refurbishment of 10 Units at Ballaghmore Heights, Enniskillen

Each project commenced in late March 2011 and will be operated under the guidelines of the Considerate Constructors Scheme to show our commitment to `improving the image of construction.`

More Social Housing Contracts secured 2010

Lowry Brothers Ltd has recently secured three new social housing contracts for local Housing Associations -

1) North & West Housing - Residential Accommodation for Supported Living, Derry Road, Strabane - £800k - 10 month contract, on site April 2012.

2) Rural Housing Association - 5 Unit Social Housing Scheme, Donagh, Lisnaskea - £400k - 8 month contract, on site March, 2010.

3) North & West Housing - Strabane Rural Cottages Phase 8 - £350k - due to commence summer 2010. The 4 individual sites are located at Victoria Road, Bready, Plumbridge Road, Newtownstewart, McKinley Bungalows, Omagh and Foreglen Road, Claudy.

Lowry Brothers demolish Omagh murder house

Keenly aware of the sensivities associated with the job, Lowry Bros. undertook the demolition of the Lammy Crescent house in Omagh where 7 members of the McElhill family lost their lives.

After weeks of careful preparation the dwelling was demolished in just 30 minutes, and the site cleared, hardcored and fenced off until NIHE has determined how it will be redeveloped.

Lowry Brothers secures major NI Water contracts

Lowry Brothers has recently beaten off stiff competition to win two significant tenders from NI Water :

C426 Buildings Maintenance and Above Ground Minor Works - 5 year contract to provide maintenance services to NIW properties throughout the entire North West region.

C435 Hire of Vehicles and Plant - 4 year contract to supply vehicles and plant as required for NIW operations in the whole North West area of the province.

Institute FC - New Spectator Stand by Lowry Brothers

Lowry Brothers has secured the million pound contract to construct an additional spectator stand for Institute Football Club at Riverside Stadium, Drumahoe which will increase the club`s seating capacity to 3000. Works commenced on site in November 2010.

MBOY Winner - Energy Efficiency Award for Lowry Brothers

Nominated by a very satisfied client, we are delighted to have won the NI regional `Energy Efficiency` category of FMB`s Master Builder of the Year Awards 2010.

We look forward to the national heats of the competition to be held in London in March 2011.

WHSCT pays tribute to Lowry Brothers

The Western Health and Social Care Trust held a reception on Thursday 28 October 2010 to showcase the newly renovated Omagh Centre which was badly damaged in 2008 after a malicious fire, and to thank individuals and groups for their support in the immediate aftermath.

The Omagh Centre is a 50 place day care facility which caters for the needs of adults with learning disabilities within the Omagh catchment area. The facility was established in 1978.

Western Trust Director of Adult Mental Health and Disability Services, Trevor Millar said: “We are delighted today to be able to celebrate the Omagh Centre and the facelift it has received after the devastation of the fire and the resulting disruption it caused clients, carers and staff.

We also want to pay tribute to our colleagues in our Estates Services, ADP Architects and Lowry Bros Construction who have worked tirelessly to renovate the damaged section of the building to enable us to fully re-instate services”.`

Employee Graduates !

Congratulations to Stephen Lowry who has just graduated, after a part-time study course at University of Ulster, Jordanstown, with BSc Honours Degree in Construction Engineering and Management.

A great acheivement for himself and the company, this qualification also gains Stephen Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building.

NI Water Small Sewerage Schemes Framework success

Lowry Brothers Ltd has been successful at tender stage for NIW`s S.S.S Framework valued at £10million, established for an initial 2 year period with further options to extend. Typical schemes will involve improvement works to the existing sewerage infrastructure network as well as upgrades to pumping stations etc, and work will commence on site mid 2010.

New Office Accommodation for Lowry Brothers Ltd

The company has moved from modular buildings into a suite of new purpose- built office accommodation at headquarters in Castlederg in 2007. These provide state-of –the-art reception facilities, board room, spacious accounts and technical staff accommodation, file rooms, and kitchen and welfare facilities.

Ian Lowry elected Chairperson of NI Demolition Association

As an active and committed member of the Northern Ireland Demolition Association Lowry Brothers’ director Ian Lowry was elected as Chairperson for the 2009/10 term, representing the Association throughout the demolition and wider construction industries in the province.

ISO 14001 Environmental Management Accreditation

The company’s Environmental Management System has been implemented, audited and certified by NQA to ISO 14001:2004 standard in January 2010. The new year also saw our Quality Management System reviewed and upgraded to ISO 9001:2008 certification.
